Gravatt is heading to canoe and backpack in the SC Midlands and NC’s Pisgah National Forest! This program is open to rising 10th grade through rising college freshmen and is fully accredited through the American Camping Association.

Gravatt Explorers develops the following skills:
- Basic wilderness safety
- Minimal environmental impact
- Orienteering
- How to pack for overnights
- How to set up and take down a campsite
- How to start a fire with flint
- Camp stove safety and how to prepare delicious camping meals
- Canoeing on still and moving water
- Leadership
Sample Schedule
- Day 1: Registration, introduction to program
- Day 2: Skills and practice night at Camp Gravatt
- Day 3: Debrief trip, skills review
- Day 4: Depart, backpacking day 1
- Day 5: Backpacking day 2
- Day 6: Backpacking day 3, Return, debrief
- Day 7: Skills day
- Day 8: Depart, Canoeing day 1
- Day 9: Canoeing day 2, Return, debrief
- Day 10: Pick-up day
When on Camp Gravatt property, you will be able to experience all your favorite camp activities like Ropes Course, tie-dye, and free swim!
Packing List
- All regular summer camp supplies LINK TO PACKING LIST
- Sleeping bag (for temperatures as low as 40 degrees)
- 2 water bottles (32 ounces each)
- Backpack/bookbag
- Small/light/inexpensive day pack
- Rain gear
- Hiking and water shoes
- Headlamp
- Optional items:
- Inflatable sleeping pad and pillow
- Hammock and rain fly (if you’d prefer instead of a tent)
- Wet wipes
- Fishing gear
