83rd Convention (2005) RESOLUTION CONCERNING GLOBAL RECONCILIATION, 0.7% GIVING FOR INTERNATIONAL DEVELOPMENT, AND SOLIDARITY WITH THE NATIONS AND CHURCHES OF THE GLOBAL SOUTH Date: August 11, 2005Offered by: The Rev. Dr. R. William Carroll, School of Theology of the University of the South and the Rev. Tracey F. Carroll, non-parochial clergy, Sewanee, TN (1) that this diocese affirms and embraces the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s), which pledge to:
2) achieve universal primary education 3) promote gender equality and empower women 4) reduce child mortality 5) improve maternal health 6) combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases 7) ensure environmental stability, and 8) develop a global partnership for development; and be it further resolved
2) challenges all communities of faith in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina to give at least 0.7% of their budgets to international development programs, 3) challenges all Episcopalians in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina to give at least 0.7% of their income to international development programs, and be it further
2) building an accessible database of and facilitating connections among all ministries in the diocese engaged in world mission and international development 3) providing opportunities for education about and engagement with works of global reconciliation - including using our connection in the Anglican communion to build relationships with people and communities in the developing world (4) that all Episcopalians in the Diocese of Upper South Carolina be encouraged to contact their elected representatives urging them to support the United States' government's fulfillment of its commitment to funding international development aid at 0.7% of U.S. GNP; and that the Secretary of Convention shall write the President of the United States and each of the members of the U.S. Congress representing South Carolina, that the Diocese of Upper South Carolina, meeting in Convention, urges them to support the United States' government's fulfillment of its commitment to funding international development aid at 0.7% of U.S. GNP. |

Cole III, Priest-in-Charge Name of Church: Church of the Nativity, Union Subject: Millennium Development Goals Whereas, the Episcopal Church endorsed the eight global goals of eradicating extreme poverty and hunger, achieving universal primary education, promoting gender equality and empowering women, reducing child mortality, improving maternal health, combating HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases, ensuring environmental sustainability, and developing global partnerships for development at the 74th General Convention and made them a mission priority for the coming triennium at the 75th General Convention as reflected in the national church budget; and |
